Spy X Family

My first book is my all-time favorite

I have read all the Spy X Family books 1-13 (book 14 and book 15 will be coming out soon), and I love them all.

I would recommend Spy x Family to readers aged 11-15, and trust me, it’s a wild ride! Seriously, this book is like a rollercoaster filled with giggles and gasps—imagine chuckling one moment and raising your eyebrows in shock the next! It’s chock-full of humor that keeps the story hopping, but hold onto your hats because when Yor, our resident assassin extraordinaire, gets to work, things get a tad bloody. Just wait until you hit book 8 and the zany chaos kicks off in book 9, where the stakes skyrocket and the action gets a turbo boost! The way it juggles silliness and seriousness is like watching a clown juggle chainsaws—hilarious yet a little nerve-wracking! It’s a quirky blend that not only entertains but also nudges readers to think about how comedy and drama can dance together, all while keeping you glued to the page.

Spy x Family is a comical ride about a trio, each with a secret! The dad, Loid Forger, is not just your average father; he’s a master spy who thinks, “Hey, why not create a pretend family to help prevent an international fight between Westalis and Ottowa?” While he’s busy playing house, he’s also juggling the world’s worst game of charades, trying to keep his double life under wraps. His cool spy name, Twilight, strikes fear in the hearts of Ottowa’s bad guys, like a dark shadow lurking at snack time! Despite his superhero façade, Loid can’t help but swoon over his wacky, makeshift family, proving even spies can have a soft side! Born in Westalis, he began his spy escapades as a kid, shaping his skills and granting him the uncanny ability to dodge bullets.

The daughter Anya was discovered at an orphanage, where she cleverly pretended to be six in order to snag a spot with Loid, who was on a quest to adopt a little one to round out his cover as the ultimate family man. Anya is a delightful and hilariously quirky girl whose unique sense of humor will have everyone in stitches; she has a stuffed toy chimera from her past that she insists is her best friend. When it comes to academic endeavors, however, she scores lower than a turtle on roller skates, much to the chagrin of her adoptive father. With her secret telepathic abilities—test no. 007—she can read the thoughts of those around her, which leads to both wildly entertaining and incredibly anxious moments. While we don’t know much about her shadowy past, we do know it involves some mad scientists experimenting on her in a lab, echoing her earlier life full of mischief and mayhem. Where she was born remains a mystery, leaving an air of intrigue and plenty of puzzled expressions in her wake, as she embarks on this wacky journey with Loid and their ever-growing family!

Yor Forger, once known as Briar, is not just your average assassin—she’s a certified superhero with a side of chaos, from Ottawa. Balancing her life as a devoted mother and a member of the secret organization, she’s earned quite the reputation for her lethal skills and strategic brilliance—because who needs a boring desk job, right? Her code name, Thorn Princess, perfectly captures her deadly talents and glamorous looks, proving that you can indeed be both fierce and fabulous. Beneath that tough exterior lies a heart of gold, which is a stark contrast to her quirky brother, Yuri, who is quite eccentric and a major resentment toward Loid.

The family dog, Bond – inspired by Bondman, Anya’s favorite cartoon hero – became her “paw-sitively” unintentional sidekick. With a knack for déjà vu, he sometimes sees the future, making him the best furry fortune teller in town! This “pawsome” ability let Anya sneak a peek inside his head and spot upcoming shenanigans. Their quirky telepathic bond turned them into a dynamic duo tackling the wacky challenges . Bond used to be included a bunch of not-so-bright terrorists with their scheme called Project Apple, which likely had nothing to do with pie.

But all in all, it’s a hilariously delightful manga series that even the most serious tweens won’t be able to resist!
