Lottie Brooks

Hello, today I’m diving into the wild world of the Lottie Brooks series !

I would recommend this book at kids aged 8-12—it’s like a comedy show but on a page! Seriously though, it’s so hilarious that I find myself laughing every time I even open the book— even though I’ve read it about five times now (just like my never-ending obsession with Spy x Family).

In book one, Lottie finds herself entering year seven — as if surviving primary school wasn’t a big enough challenge when her best friend Molly left for Australia—probably to escape the chaos. Alone and attempting to fit in, Lottie instead earns the oh-so-glamorous title of KitKat Chunky Girl (and trust me, that’s just the start). Just when she’s about to give up, enters Jess, who swoops in with a note that says, “Hey KitKat Chunky Girl, I like KitKats too, [wanna eat lunch together?]” Spoiler alert: they become BFFs faster than you can say “lunch trade!” But hold on, here comes Amber, with her sidekick Poppy, the reigning queens of popularity, making her believe that Jess is mean and has been saying rude comments behind Lottie’s back. In an epic quest for popularity, Lottie sadly waves goodbye to her true pal. But fear not! By the end, she has her superhero moment, realising that Amber is the ultimate villain of this tale, and dashes back to Jess with a cape fluttering—because every drama needs a dramatic exit!

I won’t say much more because, let’s be real, I could easily turn spoiler alert into spoiler catastrophe! One moment I’m gabbing about the storyline, and the next—KAPOW!—I’ve spilled that the butler is the culprit and that the time machine is a toaster!
